What is Acting in English Full Information

What is it to be a great actor it's one of the biggest questions I get is it about having the fame the acylation me a vow to have people come up to you and say wow you did a good job getting the approval from your cast mates and your directors casting directors or agents and managers is that what it's about [Music] well I'm sorry to tell you it's not your job as the actor is to be real honest believable raw bringing your truth your story your ideals and your beliefs into a character too many actors are focusing on all the wrong things that focusing on do I look good enough do I look pretty is the casting director gonna think I look good as the director.

I think I look good they're worrying about all these external factors they really don't have all that much control over your job is to focus on the work that's why if you get lucky enough and you're on set you got a makeup artist there and hairstylist and everybody else to focus on you cuz your job is just to focus on your work I've known quite a few actors throughout my time who have actors that they look up to who they aspire to be like their idols and in this process they try to lose themselves and they try to become these characters or these ideas of their favorite celebrity actors.

they try to be the next Johnny Depp the next Meryl Streep Viola Davis Christian Bale but the one thing that they're not trying to be is the next them you have to focus on beam you be the next you the thing is if Johnny Depp tries to be like Meryl Streep our Christian Bale tries to be like Viola Davis or vice versa it's not gonna work you could give all these great actors the exact same scene to work on the exact same and they will not play the character the same it will be completely different the reason for this is it's because they each bring their own unique story their own unique belief their own unique ideologies to a character in every situation it's gonna be great and we're gonna love it ensure we have to accept some people are gonna have preferences some people will like Viola Davis more some people will like Johnny Depp more but nobody could deny that the work will be good and your job as the actors to focus on the work and by focusing on the work. 

You have to realize that you have to bring your true self to the character bring different versions and different signs of you to the story don't worry about trying to be your idol be you be your own Idol be your own support system because you will bring the specialness to your characters you will bring that uniqueness and you are what makes a character great now is this the answer is this what makes a great actor far from it this is just half of the story the other half is this you have to also realize that this is a business you're not just working on your craft and your ability to act I know a lot of people who are great at acting but they're not great it's two different stories because an actor isn't just somebody who can go and say the lines great and tell it on its story a true actor is somebody who can do great work but they also can be professional they come to set they come on time they treat other people with respect they bring their own cast members up they make other people around them feel good they don't put anybody else down and they don't look at themselves as being better than anybody else the thing is a lot of people try to focus on being great at acting. 

But they don't focus on being a great actor it's a whole combination that you have to think about and bring together in order to tell your story and interact with people on set and bring your best foot forward every single day when you're in front of the camera and when you're behind the camera because that's your job if you want to be an actor I'll give you one last point don't fall into the trap of thinking that you know everything know what you know and know what you don't know because their job is to learn it's not to be a master on day one your job is to keep expanding and growing and developing as an individual and as an actor and this will bring your craft forward and this will make you grow as a person stay strong keep your head up high and I'll see you guys next time [Music] you
